Short week, short blog?

Student leaders of ASU need faculty help!

As you know, it’s hard to keep in contact with students during remote learning. This is even harder for our ASU student leaders working to build the next generation of student government, as they don’t have a rapt audience like we faculty do during class! Please help the ASU student leaders recruit next year’s representatives. Almost all ASU people are graduating this year, and we need to help them keep the momentum going! Share this link (contracosta.edu/asu) and this flyer with your students – there is a stipend and leadership training awaiting!

Content Review – a revision to push our systems towards an equity mindset

Please take time to review the proposed changes to our content review process. The CIC reviewed this 2 weeks ago, and will be voting on its adoption this Monday. We tend to think of content review as a “check the box” process, and maybe an opportunity to update the textbook. A major function of program review is to review pre-requisites (think about the old ‘matrix’ system and our new ‘arrow’ system for documenting this analysis). Since we have to go through the process (because of Title V and accreditation standards), why not use the opportunity to remind us to analyze how our curriculum is working for various groups of students and how we can improve our COR’s?!

Anti-racism solidarity and resources

Please save the date Monday, March 1 2:30-4:00. Join faculty and the rest of our colleagues across the district for “Fostering Allyship and Community: Becoming an Anti-Racist Institution”. This forum started as a DVC event, and because of our recent district-wide anti-racism pledge resolution, DVC leaders worked with the ASCCC to make this opportunity available to all CCCCD employees! Several executive members from the ASCCC will facilitate, one of which is John Stanskas, who at the end of his term as ASCCC President last summer, shared this powerful call to action. As you prepare for this event, you may wish to look at suggestions for anti-racism practices detailed on p43-46 in the Anti-Racism Education paper adopted by the ASCCC in Fall 2020.
