Shelter-in-Place Order Issued

Colleagues,

Contra Costa and five neighboring counties have “issued orders for a “shelter in place” to go into effect at midnight this evening.  The full details are still emerging, and it appears that educational institutions will be exempt from this order, but I wanted to advise you of these circumstances.  “This Order shall become effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 17, 2020 and will continue to be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 7, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the Health Officer” (no. 12 from the order linked above).

Employees who need to leave campus today for family and other needs are certainly able to do so, and should advise their manager/supervisor.

Employees who need to come to campus to obtain personal belongings or items needed for working remotely may do so, within the guidelines being set forth by the County order.

It had been suggested that employees could take home their desktop computer workstations to use at home; however, I have received confirmation from IT&S that such action is not possible, as the computers are not currently configured to work from off-campus locations.  We are working in concert with District IT to implement the steps necessary to have this as a viable option, but it will require some time and work by IT personnel to make that possible.

As we learn more about this County health order and its specific impact on Contra Costa College, we will communicate with you.  Please take good care of each other and help as needed.

Thanks,

-dab
