Dr. Kimberly R. Rogers is a lifelong learner, educator, researcher, and equity-centered leader who proudly serves as the 15th permanent President of Contra Costa College (CCC).
A first-generation college graduate from Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dr. Rogers brings over three decades of academic, instructional, and student affairs administrative experience with her to lead CCC, the oldest college in the Contra Costa Community College District (4CD).
Guided by the core conviction that talent is universally distributed, but opportunity is not, Dr. Rogers brings a relentless commitment to dismantling systemic barriers and expanding access to higher education for low-income and underrepresented students, and communities of color.
A researcher by training, Dr. Rogers began her academic journey at the University of South Carolina Honors College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in French with a minor in chemistry, supported by a music scholarship. An accomplished violinist, she spent her early years sharing her love for music as a K–12 instructor for the University of South Carolina String Project and playing in symphonies accompanying legendary artists.
Her experiences studying abroad in France inspired her to pivot toward a career in higher education administration. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Harvard University—where her passion for higher education economics and policies was ignited—and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the Pennsylvania State University. Throughout her career, she has held academic appointments at the State University of New York at Buffalo, the University of Massachusetts Boston, and the Université de Haute-Alsace in Mulhouse, France.
Dr. Rogers joined CCC in January 2021 as the Vice President of Instruction, a pivotal time when institutions nationwide were grappling with the dual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and declining enrollments. Stepping into the role of Acting President in June 2022 before being officially named permanent President in June 2023, Dr. Rogers successfully reversed a multi-year enrollment slide, spearheading consecutive terms of robust growth.
Her tenure at CCC has been defined by strategic innovation, collaborative leadership models, and data-informed practices. Believing strongly in the “demystification of data,” Dr. Rogers conceptualized the Comet Data Academy to build institutional data fluency and move past operational silos. Under her transformative leadership, CCC has achieved historic milestones:
- Equitable Advancements: Secured entry into the prestigious Achieving the Dream (ATD) Accelerating Equitable Outcomes cohort, focusing on reducing equity gaps for Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and People of Color. Additionally, CCC was one of four colleges and a community college system selected for the ATD’s inaugural Community College Learner Success program in 2025. Under her leadership, the college received recognition as on the first Black-Serving Institutions (BSIs) in California. As such, CCC is now one of few institutions with the unique distinction of being a tri-designated institution (Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Serving Institution; Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), and BSI) dedicated to advancing equity, representation, and success for diverse student populations.
- Academic Expansion: Achieved full implementation and adoption of Guided Pathways, while establishing new Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) and Puente Math and Science (MàS) programs. During her tenure, CCC achieved designation as a NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) campus.
- Integrated Planning and Resource Allocation: Implemented a new, fully integrated planning and resource allocation process allowing for holistic, comprehensive evaluation of operational expenses, faculty lines, classified staff, and administrative positions.
- Resource Development: Diversified institutional revenue streams by securing critical external funding, including major grants from the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) and other key philanthropic partners, directly expanding student support infrastructure and workforce pathways.
- Basic Needs Advocacy: Championed comprehensive student-support initiatives including a Free Lunch program, extended housing grants, expanded mental health counseling, and the creation of the college’s first full-time staff position dedicated to basic student needs.
- Strategic Partnerships: Facilitated a landmark $500,000 multi-year partnership with the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW).
In recognition of her tireless advocacy for West County students and the community, and her contributions to higher education, Dr. Rogers was honored by Congressman John Garamendi as one of the 2023 Women of the Year, a distinction formally chronicled in the Library of Congress. She was also the proud recipient of the 2026 Community Partner Award at West Contra Costa Unified School District’s “State of Our Schools” breakfast. Whether collaborating with institutional partners or connecting directly with students, Dr. Rogers remains dedicated to student success, working daily to ensure that every student has access to high-quality, culturally affirming opportunities that promote community vibrancy through scholarship, transfer, and family-sustaining wage careers.
