Puente Project and Puente Más

Puente + Puente MáS are learning communities that helps students succeed in college and prepare to transfer to a four-year university. The program combines writing and counseling courses with mentoring, cultural learning, and community connection.

You’ll take classes with the same group of students, work closely with instructors and counselors, and build relationships that support both your academic and personal growth.

The Puente program centers the voices and experiences of Mexican American, Latine, and multicultural communities. It offers a strong foundation in college-level writing and personal development, helping students reflect on their goals and gain confidence in their journey.

Contra Costa College offers two tracks:

Focused on writing, identity, and college readiness, this track supports students through an English and counseling sequence grounded in cultural relevance and mentorship.

Designed for students pursuing STEM majors, Puente MáS includes the core writing and counseling experience, plus additional support in math and science coursework. Students explore STEM careers while staying rooted in a learning community that affirms their identity and goals.

Students in both Puente and Puente MáS will:

  • In Puente MáS, take precalculus and calculus while engaging in hands‑on STEM enrichment activities
  • Take a rigorous two‑course English sequence with an emphasis on Latine and multicultural authors
  • Take personal development classes focused on college success, transfer planning, and self‑exploration
  • Work closely with Puente counselors to build a complete academic plan, set goals, and prepare for transfer
  • Receive guidance on transfer requirements, internships, scholarships, and college application support
  • Have one‑on‑one mentoring from professionals in the community
  • Participate in educational and cultural field trips designed to strengthen your learning and build connection
