Thinking about a future in law? Contra Costa College’s Pre-Law Studies program is part of the California State Bar and California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Pathway to Law School initiative—providing a strong, structured path for students who plan to transfer and eventually attend law school.

You’ll build a foundation in legal reasoning, writing, critical thinking, and ethics, while gaining exposure to fields like political science, sociology, and philosophy. The program is designed to prepare you for transfer to a four-year university, where you’ll complete your bachelor’s degree before applying to law school.

With a legal education, your career possibilities are wide open. Law graduates work in traditional legal roles, like attorneys and judges, as well as in non-traditional fields such as compliance, consulting, government, advocacy, and even business or media.

Pre-Law Studies provides the academic groundwork for students planning to pursue law school. It combines courses in critical thinking, communication, ethics, and social sciences to prepare students for the intellectual rigor of legal education and a wide range of legal and policy-related careers.
