Chemistry is at the heart of understanding how the world works—from the structure of atoms to the reactions that power life and technology. At Contra Costa College, you’ll build a strong foundation in both theory and hands-on laboratory skills that prepare you for transfer and a wide range of scientific careers.

You’ll explore essential topics like chemical equations, molecular structure, pH, and solution chemistry, all while gaining experience with lab techniques recognized by the American Chemical Society. Our courses are designed to strengthen your understanding of math and physics as well—key components of success in the field.

Graduates with a chemistry background pursue careers as research chemists, pharmacists, lab technicians, technical writers, marketing reps, toxicologists, perfumers, food chemists, physicians, veterinarians, crime lab analysts, and more. Whether you’re heading into industry, healthcare, or graduate studies, CCC equips you with the skills to thrive in this versatile and ever-evolving field.

Chemistry is the study of matter—what it’s made of, how it behaves, and how it changes. It connects the physical and life sciences, helping us understand everything from the makeup of stars to the development of new medicines and materials.
