Faculty Responsibilities and Rights
Faculty and instructional staff have a responsibility to assist in providing equal access to education by following these simple guidelines:
Provide written and/or verbal notification that accommodations for students with disabilities are available.
Announce during the first class session that accommodations are available for eligible students with disabilities through DSPS.
Append the following Syllabus Accessibility Statement to any course syllabi currently in use:
Students with Documented Disabilities: Contra Costa College provides equal access to educational opportunities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) Board Policy and Administrative Regulations, consistent with California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) guidelines.
Students requesting academic accommodations due to a documented disability—including students enrolled in in-person, hybrid, or online/remote courses, as well as dual-enrolled or concurrently enrolled students—must register with Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS). DSPS determines eligibility, approves reasonable academic adjustments, and issues an Academic Adjustment Services Contract to faculty each semester. Accommodations are not retroactive.
Students are encouraged to contact DSPS as early as possible to allow sufficient time to coordinate accommodations across instructional modalities and enrollment statuses.
