Compass Center Update
CalFresh + Federal Shutdown Update and How the Compass Center Can Support You
November 3, 2025
We wanted to reach out to you today because we know there are a lot of questions right now about CalFresh and the ongoing federal government shutdown. This month marks the first time in history that CalFresh (also known as SNAP) benefits will not be distributed during a government shutdown.
- On Friday, Federal judges ordered the use of emergency funds to restart SNAP payments. However, it is still unclear exactly when or if full November payments will be issued, with emergency funds only being enough for partial benefits.
At Contra Costa College we believe that food is a basic right, not a privilege. We stand with our students and their families and all who are impacted by the shutdown. We recognize that the ongoing government shutdown and suspension of Calfresh makes the day to day of going to school and living more challenging.
Below are some resources on campus and in our community to help support each other during this time and if your household is affected by the benefit freeze and you need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll make sure you get connected to the support you need.
