Dr. Norma Ambriz-Galaviz

Dr. Ambriz-Galaviz has served as President of Merritt College and Vice Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District. She has also been Acting President/Special Assistant to the President at San Jose Evergreen Community College District, and Vice President of Instruction for Mission College of the West Valley Community College District. Her impressive resume also includes over seventeen years at Chabot College, and experience as a psychology instructor, counselor, Special Student Services Dean, Dean of Counseling Services and Social Sciences Division Dean.

She has also been extremely active with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), and served on seven accreditation visiting and/or follow-up teams.

The first in her family to graduate from college, Dr. Ambriz-Galaviz was raised in Watsonville/Salinas Valley, where she attended North Salinas High School and Hartnell College. She then transferred to San Diego State University, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees before going on to earn a Doctorate in Educational Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne.

Dr. Ambriz-Galaviz has maintained residency in the East Bay since 1990, living with her husband and children in Hayward, California. An active member of the community, she has been a member of the National Hispana Leadership Institute, Association of California Community College Administrators, California Community College Chief Instructional Administrators, Alameda County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club of Oakland.
