Dr. Cheri Etheredge
Dr. Etheredge was a nurse at a Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA, before she came to CCC in 1981. While she transitioned to teaching, she continued to work summers as a staff nurse at Kaiser Oakland.
At CCC, she started the nursing simulation program that currently enjoys a stellar reputation. She developed the space, became trained in simulation, wrote the scenarios, and educated faculty and students about the process. The simulation lab she spearheaded is now a state-of-the-art facility housed in the Applied Arts building, where students take place in an annual competition.
“I love the students who come here!” She says. “In the nursing department, we get a range of ages, ethnicities and medical experience.”
“In two years, we turn a student into a nurse–which is amazing. And then, that nurse can get a job and help his or her community.”
She holds a BSN from Florida State University, an MN from Emory University, and an Ed.D from the University of San Francisco.
She is a member of the nursing honor organization Sigma Theta Tau, and spoke about CCC’s program at the 2015 International Simulation Conference. She has also presented the Simulation Competition to the District Convocation on Innovation.
In her free time, she is a dedicated performer who has appeared in the Nutcracker every year since 2007.
