Student Learning & Administrative Unit Outcomes
The primary purpose of Contra Costa College is to encourage and support learning.  Our goal is to do this in the best and most effective manner possible.  To ensure we reach our goal all departments and units on campus continuously assess how well students are learning and how well we are using our resources to support that learning. 

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements about the knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or attitudes that a student will have attained at the end of a course or particular collegiate experience.  Administrative Unit Outcomes (AUOs) are based on what a "client" will experience, receive or understand as a result of the services provided by the unit.  AUOs are also based on the specific contributions the unit makes to the effective operation of the college in supporting student learning.

The outcome assessment results are used to help design and develop plans to improve learning and institutional effectiveness.  These plans or recommendations are documented in the self study component of the program review.  All departments, programs and units on campus must conduct a program review at least once every four years.  Under our shared governance structure the program review documents and recommendations are then used to help develop the college’s Educational Plans, Strategic Initiatives and other institutional goals and policies. 

Through this on-going process Contra Costa College is constantly improving the learning environment in order to provide the best possible opportunities for all students to achieve their own educational goals.
