Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS)

The purpose of the Learning Specialist program is to diagnose and instruct students with learning disabilities so that full mainstreaming into the regular college program can occur.
 
The program also provides services to help students with learning disabilities to achieve their college goals.
 
The program offers several different services:
 
Testing for Learning Disability. Learning disabilities may include:
  • Academic
  • Perceptual
  • Psychometric
  • Neuropsychological
  • Learning styles

Testing takes between two (2) and five (5) hours and is administered over two or three appointments. Testing is strictly confidential and results will not be shared without written consent from the student. Students in the Learning Specialist Program may take courses in reading, math, spelling, writing, learning strategies, and computer technology. Students are placed in specialized classes, as determined by testing. The learning specialists will assist students in registration for Learning Skills courses and prescribe accommodations for the classroom.

 

DSPS/ Learning Specialist Classes

The purpose of the Learning Specialist Program is to identify
and instruct students with disabilities so that full mainstreaming
into the regular college program can occur. The program
also provides a wide variety of services to help students with
learning disabilities to achieve their college goals.

The program offers:

Students a battery of tests to determine their educational strengths and weaknesses.

Tests that can measure performance in various areas including:

    • Academic Achievement
    • Aptitude and Perceptional Skills
    • Learning styles
    • Testing takes between two (2) and five (5) hours and is
      administered over two or three appointments.
    • Testing is strictly confidential and results will not be shared
      without written consent from the student.

Students in the Learning Specialist Program may take courses in reading, math, spelling, writing, learning strategies, and computer technology. Students are placed in specialized classes, according to the results of
the tests administered.

The learning specialist will assist students with registration for college courses and provide counseling to determine career objectives.
