BOOKS FROM DVC or LMC
Books that are not available at CCC might be available from the library at Diablo Valley College or Los Medanos College (the other colleges in our district). For information about requesting a book to be sent to CCC, see the Hold Requests and Interlibrary Loan sections below.
You may also go to either of those libraries and check out circulating books using your CCC ID card. You may then return those books at your home campus library and the staff will send them to their proper library "home." Please note that this return service is only available for books from the CCC, DVC and LMC libraries.
FINES
Fines are charged for overdue and/or lost library materials. In accordance with Governing Board Policy 5018, grades, transcripts, and registration privileges shall be withheld until all library books or other library materials are returned (and library checkout privileges will be suspended). A hold may also be placed on student records (grades, transcripts) if the amount of fines owed is excessive.
FINE MAXIMUM: Fines accumulate to a maximum amount. For a circulating book, this amount is $10; for a Reserve book, it is $50; for a magazine or pamphlet, it is $5; for a telecourse video, it is $35 per tape ($5 maximum per tape per day).
HOLD REQUESTS
You may place your own REQUEST/HOLD on a circulating book via the online catalog. This is a good idea if you are doing your research from off-campus and want to make sure that a book you want to use will be available for you to check out when you get to the Library. You can use this same process to request circulating books from DVC and LMC, too (takes approximately 2 working days to arrive).
Click on the REQUEST/HOLD button shown at the top of the full record display (you must be using the web version of the online catalog). Fill in your name, student ID number, and pickup location, then click on Submit. You will get a message reporting on the success of your request. Keep in mind that some items (reserves, telecourse tapes, media, reference, storage) cannot have holds placed on them
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Books that are not available at CCC may be available via interlibrary loan (ILL) from one of the other colleges in our district (Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College). ILL from other libraries outside the district is not available.
You may place your own REQUEST/HOLD to have a circulating book sent from DVC or LMC via the online catalog. The book will be sent by campus mail and held at the Circulation Desk for pickup when it arrives (usually within 2 working days). The checkout period is usually the same as if it belonged to CCC.
LOST MATERIALS
Lost items will be billed at current list prices, where possible. The replacement cost for a magazine will be $5. The bill for a lost book will be the list price plus a $10 replacement fee plus a $10 processing fee. A lost telecourse video will be billed at $35.
RENEWALS
You may renew materials in person at the Circulation Desk, by phone (510-235-7800 x4318), or online through the Library's OPAC. Once an item is overdue, it may only be renewed in person at the Circulation Desk.
REQUEST A SEARCH
If you can't find a book on the shelf:
- Verify the call number and library location in the online catalog.
- Ask the reference librarian on duty to help you locate the book.
- If the book is still not found, request a Search & Hold at the Circulation Desk. Fill out the form with the title & call number of the book, and your contact information.
Library staff will search for the item at several timed intervals. They will notify you if it is found. If the requested book can't be found after repeated searches over a 3-week time period, you will be notified that the book is considered lost and the search closed
RESERVE MATERIALS
The Reserve collection consists of materials that instructors have placed on "reserve" for students to use in the library for short periods of time. It includes textbooks, lab manuals, solution guides, article reprints, old tests, personal books belonging to instructors, telecourse programs, and me reference materials. See Checkout Chart
for loan periods.
