An online catalog is also called an OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalog). It is the index to the books and non-print items in the library.  Contra Costa College has a shared online catalog with Diablo Valley College (DVC), Los Medanos College (LMC) and the Center for Higher Education in San Ramon.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES
Library patrons (including CCC faculty and staff) need a bar-coded campus ID card for the current semester/year to check materials out of the CCC Library. This card may be obtained in the Associated Student Union Office in the Student Activities Building.

Patrons may borrow books from DVC and LMC via Interlibrary Loan (ILL) by clicking the Request button on the item's full record screen in the OPAC. Requests are printed at each library every morning and placed in the campus mail, a process that takes approximately 2 working days. If you cannot wait that long, you may choose a different pickup location from the Request Screen. Ask for more information at the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk.

CCC retirees and members of the community may obtain borrowing privileges by joining the Friends of the Contra Costa College Library.

GETTING STARTED
When you click on Online Catalog, you should be on the opening screen for the CCC Library.

bulletSearch by Author, Title, Subject, Keyword (in title or subject), or Call Number.

bulletUse the Reserve option to look for materials set aside for in-library use by an instructor.

bulletIf you find yourself on the District Libraries screen, SELECT the library you wish to search (CCC only,
DVC only, LMC only, or all at the same time).

bulletUse the on-screen menus to guide you through the various search options.

bulletThe main entry screen will provide complete bibliographic information -- author, title, publisher, place of publication, and publication year; a physical description (number of pages, if there are illustrations, etc.);
and the location, call number and checkout status.

bulletWrite the complete call number as shown on the main entry page and then go to the appropriate call number area of the library.

For more information, see How to Search (pdf)

LOCATING BOOKS ON THE SHELVES BY CALL NUMBER
Books are arranged on the shelves by Library of Congress call number, which are a combination of letters & numbers. These numbers indicate a work's content, as well as its location on the library shelves. For more information about how to find books in the library see Using Call Numbers to Find Books on the Shelves (pdf).

SUBJECT GUIDES TO THE OPAC
The Trailblazer Guides series list selected subject headings and/or titles in a particular subject area that may be useful in locating the information you need. If you have not decided on a topic, see Topic Ideas for a list of contemporary issues, or "hot topics."

CONNECTING TO OTHER LIBRARIES
There are two ways to connect to other libraries from the CCC Library's web site:

bulletThrough the OPAC:
The CCC Library OPAC can connect users to the OPACs of other selected libraries. Look for this option on the OPAC's main screen.  You can also switch OPACs in the midst of a search by clicking on the name of the other library (such as Berkeley Public Library) on the function bar; this will automatically perform the same search in that library.

bulletThrough the Other Libraries site list:
This list has links to online catalogs at selected academic and public libraries, Virtual Libraries, and a Virtual Reference Shelf (online reference works such as dictionaries, almanacs, etc.).
