Course Description: A Survey course tracing the development of art from Paleolithic times to the present with special emphasis on painting. Designed for the non-major, Art 116 offers illustrated lectures, readings and discussion for understanding and appreciating the principles of art as applied to painting, architecture, and sculpture. Student Evaluation: **Midterms must be taken with the class during the scheduled exam periods noted on the class calendar The midterms will cover both reading and lecture material, and will be spaced at intervals through the semester. Participation includes accessing WebCT each week for lectures, films, and completing homework. Three homework asignments will be given at intervals during the semester.These assignments will have a firm due date for submission, late assignments will receive a reduced grade. Assignments will require some research and reading. Assignments must be completed by individual students in their own words.
