Course description This is a course in compositional drawing in charcoal from still-life and other subject matter.  It is designed for students with an understanding of composition and design, and continues from Art 174, focusing on drawing from observation of still life materials.  The course also provides an introduction to concepts of abstraction, and continued use of charcoal and other drawing media on an 18”x24”or larger format.  Projects in: still life studies, communication of line and location, construction of planes, contour/cross –contour, light and shade.  Not repeatable
At the end of this course students will be able to: Create three drawings in black and white using value.
Create three drawings in three different drawing media using value

Withdrawals If you decide to drop this class, either tell me clearly or better yet you fill out the proper paperwork and deliver it to the appropriate office
Do not count on your instructor to automatically drop you if you're not attending class regularly.  Failure to take responsibility in this matter can result in a final F grade.

Gallery Assignment:  There is a one page written assignment  relating to a visit to a gallery.

Grading Policy:
STUDENT EVALUATION
Attendance and participation at critiques is mandatory
20% Class Participation positive participation in giving and receiving feedback, sketchbook
15% each of 4 critiques
20% final critique
