Course Description: An entry level drawing course using charcoal and other drawing materials on an 18”x24” or larger format. Projects in: non-objective composition, perspective, and drawing form observation of still life materials, with an emphasis on composition and design. For students with little or no previous experience in the visual arts.
At the end of this class students will be able to organize a portfolio of drawings.
Students will be able to demonstrate the use of the four mediums used in this class (graphite, charcoal, conte and ink.)
Students will be able to make and use a value scale in the four mediums in this class.
Using charcoal, create a contour drawing of a still-life object in using line variety, line weight and line thickness to describe how light changes the objects..

Week 5 negative space Sketch books due 2/24
Week 6, 7 value using a variety of media, value scale
Week 8 mid term portfolio review 3/17 portfolio due at the end of class
Week 9, 10 value conte, experimental drawing
Week 11 spring break
Week 12, value conte using black and white conte on gray papers
Week 13 value ink, texture
Week 14, 15 perspective exercises One page paper due May 5th
Week 16, perspective e drawings Sketch books due 5/19
Week 17 final critique May 19th, 9:10 AM Final portfolio due at the end of class
FINAL Pick up graded portfolios May 26th, 9:00-10:40 AM
Gallery Assignment: There is a one page written assignment relating to a visit to a gallery.
Withdrawals If you decide to drop this class, either tell me clearly or better yet you fill out the proper paperwork and deliver it to the appropriate office
Do not count on your instructor to automatically drop you if you're not attending class regularly. Failure to take responsibility in this matter can result in a final F grade.
