Course Description:

This course is a survey of the history of Western Art from the Renaissance to the present, including painting, sculpture and architecture. The art will be viewed in its historical context and discussed with reference to the religious beliefs and ideologies of the cultures which produced it. Not repeatable.

Transfers for Art Major and for Humanities and Arts requirements to UC and CSU systems.

Lecture Topics: ( The class lecture schedule, assigned reading, quizzes, and assignments all appear on the class calendar on the class WebCT site.) Reading assignments should be completed according to assigned calendar dates. The date of lecture topics may vary according to the length of time required to deal with class discussion. Please check this site weekly and print out the lecture handout for the topic and bring it to class.

Grades will be determined by:

4 Midterms* @ 20 % each = 80%
Required Researcg Paper Assignment 20%

* Midterms are graded on a curve based on the highest grade earned on the particular test. Midterms must be taken with the class on the scheduled date.
