Pre-meeting handouts:
http://contracosta.edu/hpc/program/ contains a proposed 41-42 unit curriculum consisting of five areas of specialization. The individual courses comprising the curriculum are listed and described. The Wake curriculum (http://www.waketech.edu/curred/cis/hpchome.html) and the ITIEP model curriculum (http://www.itiep.org/) were used to advise the creation of this proposed curriculum.

Skill Set Brainstorming:
The pre-meeting handouts proposed that the program produce five different kinds of high performance computing technicians: Mainframe, System Administration, Network Administration, Security administration, and Parallel programming. We decided that the mainframe technician does not correspond to what would appear on a job offering. We judged it should be required knowledge of all the other categories of technicians.

We discussed specific skill sets of the system administration and network administration technicians which was to be used in the creation of the HPC curriculum which needed to be passed at CCC in the first weeks of January 2003 in order to achieve state approval for an AS degree in HPC commencing in Fall 2003.

New business:
Stu is looking into getting his company, Incyte Genomics, to donate ~128 dual node processors to CCC to establish a supercomputer center.

Date of next meeting:
