About Mr. Wade

John H. Wade II, Contra Costa College Athletic Director, came to CCC from the University of San Francisco. He has extensive knowledge of intercollegiate athletics having served for years as a coach at the four year and Division I level: Eastern Washington University (1983-88), University of the Pacific in Stockton (1988-1990), Eastern Washington University (1990-1995), University of California, Santa Barbara (1995-1997) and University of San Francisco (1997-2001).

While Athletic Director at Contra Costa College, John has served as Bay Valley Conference Administrative Representative for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, and Men’s Basketball. He has been the President of the Bay Valley Conference 2007-2009 and is currently the President for the Bay Valley Conference (BVC) for the Northern California Football Association (NCFA).

Shawna Belfield

Shawna Belfield

Administrative Assistant

Ms. Belfield has a myriad of work experience, most recently as a Journey Child Support Specialist and Production Supervisor. Prior to that Shawna worked as a secretary for many years. She is a Comet alumni graduating in 1998. During her time here at CCC as a student, Shawna also worked as an office clerk in the Admissions Office. Shawna enjoys roller skating in her spare time and watching old movies.

Currently, as the Athletic Department Administrative Assistant, her duties include Acdemic program reports, Student counseling schedules, record keeping, summer swim and sports camp program sign ups, fundraising activities as well as attending all home games.

Brian PowelsonBrian Powelson “B”

Athletic Trainer

Mr. Powelson began his employment at Contra Costa College in 1995.

Mr. Powelson has been the long time trainer and is known as “B” by students campus wide. He provides care for the student/athletes, campus community and is always willing to go the extra mile. He serves on many College committees and attends State-wide and National professional conferences. He is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento.

Mr. Powelson has been recognized Statewide by his peers for the work he has done with serious sports injuries.

Vanessa KerstenVanessa Kersten

Women’s Locker Room Attendant

Ms. Kersten is a CCC Alumni. She received a full ride scholarship to the University of Alabama A & M to play softball, transferring from Contra Costa College, where she studied sociology. When Vanessa is not working she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and playing slow pitch softball on the weekends. She loves working with the ladies who have been swimming at Contra Costa College for 20 or so years. Vanessa says “they have taught me a lot about the college and have helped me mold comfortably into my position.”
