El Cerrito High School is participating
in the statewide initiative of school reform. The college has a representative
on the Community Advisory Committee and is helping to shape the design of
the school's curriculum to meet the demands of the 21st century.
Pinole Valley
High School has an academy, which is designed to foster the development of
students interested in the performing arts. Staff members from the college
serve on the Community Advisory Board for the academy.
Teacher Training Workshops with the WCCUSD
Faculty
from the College has been working with single-subject credential aspirants
to assist them in preparing for the state test in their respective subjects.
Workshops are offered on Saturday mornings and are in the subject areas of
English, Mathematics and Biology. Additional projects are being discussed
with the WCCUSD and CSU-Hayward to assist these high school teachers to meet
the state credential requirements.
Richmond Youth Works/WCCUSD Project
City of Richmond
Youth Works has established an afternoon tutoring program for at-risk youth.
Students are referred by the local high schools and enrolled in academic skills,
ESL and a graphics class. In addition, the college is working with YouthWorks
to develop the Summer Youth Employment Program.
High School Choir Competition
The Music Department
has sponsored an annual high school choir competition. All the local
high schools have been represented at this event. It has grown each
year it has been held and has become one of the premier competitions in the
area.
Richmond Lions Club Student Speakers Contest
For the past
eight years, the College, WCCUSD and the Richmond Lions Club have sponsored
the Lion's™s Club Annual Student Speakers Contest. Students from local
high schools participate and faculty from the College serves as judges.
Martin Luther King Day Celebration
The college in conjunction with the WCCUSD has sponsored an annual King Day Celebration at the Knox Center for the Performing Arts. More than 100 students from local schools participate in the program.
WCCUSD Science Fair
Contra Costa College is the host of the annual Science Fair sponsored by the WCCUSD. Students from all over the district bring their projects and display them at the college for one week.
WCCUSD Transition Program
This model program is designed to transition mentally challenged students to age-appropriate activities. Students are 18 years or older. They take adaptive P.E. and selected skills courses at the College.
CRUISE (Creating Respect and Unity in Science Education)
In collaboration with WCCUSD's middle school and high school teachers, Contra Costa College's CSE-MESA alumni and students are brining their science exhibits and demonstrations to classrooms to excite students about science and inform them of the benefits of attending college and the different college systems in California.
Metas
Metas is the Spanish word for goals. It is an outreach program at CCC that focuses on helping junior high and high school students to achieve their personal, educational career goals. Metas builds a network of support for students through a unique instructional and tutoring program, as well as parent involvement.
College for Kids
This is an annual CCC program to provide students in our community with an enjoyable and challenging summer learning experience. CFK classes are offered for enrichment only. Upon successful completion of class, students are awarded a certificate of completion.
Tech Prep Grant
The primary focus of the grant is to expand focused projects at local high schools in partnership with Contra Costa College.
After School Mathematics Tutoring with Richmond High School's Athletic Department
Contra Costa College's CSE-MESA students tutor Richmond High School athletes in mathematics and better prepare them for the exit exam.
West County Reads
Contra Costa College staff volunteers to read to students at the local elementary schools every year on Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 3rd.
West Contra Costa Unified School District's Job Shadow Day
Contra Costa College volunteers to participate in WCCSD's™s annual ground hog job shadow day where employees offer their mornings and/or afternoons for three days during February for local K-12 students to come to the campus and job shadow our employees

Helms Tutoring Program
Students from the Center for Science Excellence are providing tutorial assistance for middle school students at Helms.
UC Berkeley/Lawrence Hall of Science
The LHS is sponsoring a NSF funded tutoring program in science and mathematics at Contra Costa College. Students from local high schools are participating in this program.
Yosemite Institute/City of Richmond
This innovative project is designed to expose students from the WCCUSD to the great natural resource, Yosemite National park. The College jointly sponsored a field trip to the park and is working to develop other collaborations.
Business and Community Partnerships
Richmond Works
College representatives serve on the various committees sponsored by the local WIA (Richmond Works).
San Pablo One Stop Center
This is a partnership funded through the college's VTEA Grant (Vocational and Technical Education Act) to provide vocational career counseling and other services to the clients there to facilitate their efforts to be Contra Costa College students. This partnership has been in effect for the last two years and has been responsible for increasing college enrollment and assisting WIA clients to get the job training skills they need to get employed

World One Music Festival
The College has helped to sponsor this 4th of July music festival at Castro Park in El Cerrito, CA.
Gateway for Disadvantaged Youth
A partnership between the Contra Costa County Workforce Development Board, the Contra Costa Children and Family Service Agency, Los Medanos Community College and Contra Costa College. They have contracted with two colleges to provide a 14 week bridge program for "out-of-school" and foster youth ages 18-21 that will provide both part-time after school employment and assist them with becoming community college students this Fall semester. Another bridge program will commence after the first one has completed. All student cohorts will be tracked for the next year and participants will be given additional tutoring, counseling and financial services to ensure their success.
Business Development Center
The Business Development Center in partnership with CCC VTEA's Economic Development Department will be offering a class on "How to Start a Restaurant or Food Service Business" in Contra Costa County. The college will offer the Culinary Arts class with well known restaurateurs as guest speakers and the BDC will provide the know how on getting the necessary business loans, locations and site selection advice and even the expertise for professional kitchen design and equipment. This partnership will serve 35 clients to start.
El Civics/VESL
El Civics/VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language) Grant was awarded to Contra Costa College in a partnership with the Department of Education to support literacy instruction that incorporates adult basic education for civics education. This grant focuses on learners who function at or below several national assessment tests and it will assist these adults to master the civic institution and citizenship preparation skills necessary to become successful members in our society.
Contra Costa Business/Education Collaborative and CCC
This partnership is designed to work together on "industry specific" workforce development initiatives such as biotechnology, manufacturing and construction apprenticeship programs in the high schools in order to link these careers to community college training.
City of San Pablo
The City of San Pablo and the College entered into an agreement to remodel the soccer field. The project has been completed. The city also installed lights for night soccer games.
North Richmond Neighborhood House
Several joint programs have been conducted with this agency, including world premiere showing of the made-for-TV movie entitled, "Redemption."
West County Detention Center
The College has been making regular outreach visits to the Center to recruit potential students as they are being paroled. Workshops on financial aid, EOPS and other services have been provided for the inmates.
WCCUSD's School to Career "High School Visitation Days"
250 plus high school students come to the college each semester for presentations by our faculty on various dynamic high tech, high wage careers they can pursue once they graduate. Students come with their counselors from Pinole, Hercules, Richmond, Kennedy, El Cerrito and DeAnza high schools. The college also partners with this unit to bring middle school students to see our programs in the spring semester for our "Middle School Visitation Day" for 150 plus students.
Richmond and El Sobrante Chambers of Commerce
Members of the College serve on the boards of Chambers of Commerce and have worked closely in developing a strong relationship between the College and the Chambers over the years.
Contra Costa Child Care Council
The Child Development Department has worked with the Council on issues and activities related to serving the child care needs of the County. A member of the department has served on the board of the Council.
Bay Area Rescue Mission
The College has worked with the mission to design and offer training courses for the men involved in the recovery program. Students have taken auto mechanics and culinary arts courses at the College.
Crescent Park Family Resource Center
College representatives have been working with staff from the agency to develop joint classes And programs for residents of the Crescent Park subsidized housing complex

Doctor's Medical Center -- Pinole Campus (Tenet)
They provide lab space and equipment for nursing skills.
Rubicon
This collaboration has been successful in creating courses in vocational education for clients of this agency. A very successful certified nursing assistant program and selected automotive training have been offered.
Alta Bates Hospital, Berkeley; CCC Regional Medical Center; Children's Hospital, Oakland; Doctor's Medical Center, San Pablo; Herrick Medical Center, Berkeley; Kaiser, Walnut Creek and Oakland; Martinez Veterans Care Facility
Contra Costa College uses these medical facilities for clinical rotations of our nursing and health science students.
Catholic Charities of the East Bay
This collaboration with the College offers academic support to non-native English speakers who are interested in becoming Early Childhood professionals. The program provides students with financial assistance for books, tuition, cash incentives, job preparation, placement and support.
Women's History Annual Observance
Contra Costa College and the local chapter of the Association of American University Women host an annual celebration honoring a woman from each of the five cities and five unincorporated areas we serve.
California Shakespeare Festival
We collaborate with U.C. Berkeley to teach a summer Shakespeare drama acting class filled with a diverse student population of all ages and experience. This class culminates in a performance at the end of summer. This has been a successful collaboration for more than 15 years.
County Board of Education -- Teen Challenge Grant
We offer live telecasts that focus on teen issues such as pregnancy, depression and prostitution. The programs include live television broadcasts from the college's TV studio.
Youthbuild USA
CCC and North Richmond Youthbuild Project, Contra Costa County Housing Redevelopment are grant partners in a program designed to prepare young North Richmond residents for the pre-apprenticeship carpentry field.
Clorox and Chevron/Texaco
Researchers from Clorox and Chevron/Texaco are MESA's Fall 2003 Industry Board members. Contra Costa College™s CSE-MESA students have received summer internship placements at Clorox and Chevron.
Richmond Police Activities League Computer Center
Members from the Richmond community may receive hands-on experience and instructions on how to use a computer from Police Activities League Computer Center in Richmond. Contra Costa College's™s CSE-MESA students are tutors at the Center.
Willie McGee Foundation
The college has a representative who sits on this foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to support programs that serve at-risk youth in the East Bay.
College/University Partnerships
St. Mary's and CSU, Hayward Degree Completion Program
As an extension of the PACE and Weekend College Program, the College has collaborated with St. Mary's™s College and the California State University at Hayward to offer B.A. degree completion programs on the campus. These programs allow CCC students and residents of West Contra Costa County to have access to baccalaureate degree program in the West County area at times that accommodate the working adult.
University of California at Berkeley's Biology Transfer Consortium (BTC)
Biology and chemistry faculty are members of the BTC steering committee. Through this collaboration, selected science and engineering students at CCC receive paid summer internships at UC Berkeley and attend a course during the Fall or Spring semester to learn about the educational expectations of the University of California professors and the study skills necessary to be successful at a U.C.
CSU Hayward Internship Liaison
Contra Costa College's™s CSE-MESA mentors work collaboratively with CSU Hayward's™s faculty and coordinator to arrange field trips to CSU Hayward's™s science department. This partnership has also established science, mathematics, computer science and engineering research internships for Contra Costa College™s CSE-MESA students at CSU Hayward.
UC Davis' MURPPS (Mentorships for Undergraduate Research Participants in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences) Internship Liaison
Contra Costa College's™s CSE-MESA mentors work collaboratively with MURPP's director, staff and faculty at UC Davis to organize field trips to UC Davis. Both programs also work together to establish science, mathematics, computer science and engineering research internships for Contra Costa College's CSE-MESA students at UC Davis. These interactions help to facilitate a smooth transition for Contra Costa College students transferring to UC Davis.
