Some possible careers: preschool worker, preschool teacher, family daycare provider, pre-school teacher's assistant, elementary school teacher's aide, child tutor, early childhood program director, pediatric nurse; consultant for children's books, learning materials, computer software and television programming; social worker specializing in the rights of children and laws against child neglect and abuse.

Major: Early Childhood Education 32 units

A Certificate of Achievement may be earned by completing all the courses required for this major with a grade of "C" or better.

An Associate in Science degree may be earned by completing a minimum of 60 units of degree credit coursework, including the major requirements and breadth requirements, with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The student must complete all courses required for the major with a grade of "C" or better.

 Major: American Montessori Education 32 units

The Montessori Teacher Education Program is fully accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council of Teacher Education (MACTE) and is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS).
Montessori Teacher Certification will be awarded by Contra Costa College and the American Montessori Society upon completion of the specified courses listed below. Contra Costa College offers an Associate in Science degree upon completions of the Montessori major and the required general education breadth requirements. The certification awarded by the American Montessori Society will be a provisional credential for students without a B.A. or B.S. degree,
and a full credential for those holding a B.A. or B.S. degree. Course scheduling allows students to pursue the degree while holding a full-time position. The course runs in two-year cycles and the next program cycle begins in Fall 2005.
