COUNS 080, 085, 086- Learning Disability Assessment

COUNS 100- Topics in Counseling

.2-3 units: 3 hours lecture, CR/NC, ND

This supplemental course in counseling is designed to provide a study of additional topics, to be announced each term in the current course schedule. The course may be repeated three times.

COUNS 101- Skills for College Success

3 units: 3 hours lecture, LR, ND

This course covers a range of topics and skills that help students make the transition to a college setting, familiarizes them with college and setting goals for higher education.

COUNS 102(R)- Pre-Collegiate Skills/Math Preparation Skills

1-3 units: 3 hours lecture, SC, ND

This course offers an introduction to and review of basic arithmetic. The course emphasizes computational and problem-solving skills. Among the topics covered are place values, the process of finding sums and differences, the multiplication and division of whole numbers, and identification and application of fractions. This course may be repeated three times.

COUNS 103(R)- Pre-Collegiate Skills/ Career and Life Planning- Self Assessment

1-3 units: 3 hours lecture by arrangement, SC, ND

This course explores student strengths, skills, interests, values and preferred lifestyles for satisfying educational and career choices. This course may be repeated three times.

COUNS 104(R)- Pre-Collegiate Skills/Language Fundamentals

1-3 units: 3 hours lecture, SC, ND

This course helps students improve their reading, language, listening, and study skills in preparation for more formal English courses. Emphasis is placed on comprehension, paragraph structure and group applications. This course may be repeated three times.

COUNS 105(R)- Pre-Collegiate Study Skills

1-3 units: 3 hours lecture, SC, ND

This course helps the student to develop the necessary skills and tools to make a successful transition into college. The course will combine knowledge of college resources, time management, study skills, self-assessment and educational planning. This course may be repeated three times.

COUNS 110- Planning for Success

.5 unit: 9 hours lecture, SC, ND

This is a short-term course designed to promote student success through understanding the importance of planning and establishing goals. This course will provide students with information to assist in their educational and career planning as well as acquaint students with pertinent facts about Contra Costa College. This course will also help students understand the admission requirements and the transfer process for the systems of higher education.

COUNS 120- Managing College Success and Life Transitions

1-3 units: 3 hours lecture, SC, DG

This course is designed to assist student in obtaining skills, tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in reaching their educational goals, and to move through the challenges and transitions of a life span. The course content includes study skills, career explorations and career planning, time ad budget management, techniques in decision making, interpersonal communication sills, critical thinking skills, preventative mental and physical health care, and how to effectively handle various psychological and social issues confronted with during a life span. In addition, students are presented with methods for developing strategies to make career choices which can be used repeatedly throughout their working lives as economic and personal events call for career changes.

COUNS 298- Independent Study

.2-4 units: LR, DG

Prerequisite: educational contract of study signed by an instructor, department chair and college dean. Topics must extend beyond regular course offerings.

This course is designed for selected students to pursue independent study in Career under the direction of an instructor.
