  • Occupational Work Experience is offered under two different plans:

    1. Alternate Plan- The Alternate Plan of cooperative work experience offers students opportunities to attend college full-time one term and work full-time the following term. Under the plan, on-the-job experiences must be related directly to the student's educational goals. Up to eight units of cooperative work experience per term may be earned by a student (with a maximum of 16 units), and students may not be enrolled in more than one other course. Students may not transfer from one plan to another without having completed seven units in one plan.

    2. Parallel Plan- The Parallel Plan of cooperative work experience allows students the opportunity to attend college and work each term in which they are in college, and awards them units of credit for their work experience.

CO OP 160- General Work Experience Education

.5-3 units: hours by arrangement. 1 unit for five hours per week or 75 hours per term paid work; 1 unit for four hours per week or 60 hours per term unpaid work. DG

General work experience education provides students with the opportunity to explore areas of career interest under supervision of college instructors, who will help students to acquire desirable work habits, attitudes, and career awareness. Jobs held by students need not be related to their occupational goals. This course may be repeated for a maximum of two terms but does not meet requirements for veterans' benefits.

CO OP 170- Occupational Work Experience Education

1-4 units: hours by arrangement, LR, DG

This course is designed for students whose jobs relate to their college major or career goal. It provides on the job training in business, community and industrial establishments under the supervision of a college instructor and is facilitated by learning objectives. Students are concurrently enrolled in 7 units including COOP ED, paid or unpaid work experience and an approved application submitted to the COOP ED office.
