What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process or action, which links, joins, or interrelates the instructional courses or programs of two or more educational systems and which allows students to progress toward predetermined educational and career goals and objectives at a pace related to individual competence development. Articulation refers to the process for facilitating the movement of a student from one type of educational institution to another while minimizes unnecessary repetition of instruction and course content.

What is the Articulation Agreement Process between Contra Costa College and WCCUSD and How Does it Work?

An individual articulation agreement between any single high school/ROP/Adult Education and college requires collaboration between instructors at each school site. The efforts of faculty members in aligning course objectives and programs facilitate the smooth transition for students in accomplishing their career goals. With agreements in place, students can determine their options for continuing their education.

Since a CCC/WCCUSD Articulation Agreement is already on file, the steps to course-to-course or program-to-program articulation are as follows:

Step #1 Each high school/ROP and Adult Education agency will identify programs and courses, which have the potential for articulation with individual college programs and courses.

Step #2 Faculty members begin their efforts to compare curricula and identify courses that meet the requirements of an articulation agreement.

Step #3 Collaborating faculty identify the objectives within each individual course of the identified program.

  • The Course-to-Course Articulation Form is used to list and certify required objectives and competencies included in the high school/ROP/Adult Education and college curriculum.

  • A second form, The Program-to-Program Articulation Form, is used to list the courses that fulfill identified program requirements.

Step #4 Following the faculty agreement, the appropriate administrators sign each of the forms. Copies of each signed agreement form with the course outlines and course descriptions attached should be kept on file at each school site.

Step #5 Upon completion of an articulated course, the high school/ROP or Adult Education Instructor completes a CCC Tech Prep Program Articulation Completion Form for each student.
