    Program Review

    Academic and Vocational Programs

Accreditation, Title V, and the Contra Costa College District administrative policies (AP 2900.10) all require that Contra Costa College have a program review process to evaluate educational programs. Academic programs as well as student services and administrative units will conduct these reviews during the review period. Academic programs will conduct the review process once every five years and vocational programs will conduct the review process every two years.

    Student Services and Administrative Units

Each Student Service unit will participate in a program review process every four years to determine its strengths and areas needing improvement. The level of program effectiveness, responsiveness and the ability to forecast trends and needs are critical to achievement of student success and are the cornerstones to the review process. Program review is intended to support and compliment the completion of annual plans required of each unit

    Purpose of Program Review

The primary objective is to assure the quality of educational programs (including instructional, student services, and institutional support programs), promote student success, and ensure the effectiveness of institutional support for programs. Review of programs will be undertaken for the following specific purposes:
    1. To evaluate how well an educational program functions in relation to its objectives, the mission of the college, the college's institutional goals and priorities, and the needs of the community.
    2. To strengthen planning, decision making, and scheduling.
    3. To encourage program development and improvement.
    4. To improve the use of college resources.
    5. To comply with Title 5, accreditation and matriculation requirements.
This program review process is an internal review for the purposes of strengthening the departments themselves. It is not the purpose of this review to reduce, eliminate, or otherwise negatively impact the unit being reviewed or its staff, nor will this process alone result in enhancement of program budgets or staffing. Decisions regarding budget and staff resource allocation will be made in the context of the college governance structure, including appropriate input from the Academic Senate, College Council, CIC, Student Services, Budget Committees and collective bargaining agents.
